The company, usually known as BMM, was founded on 1 August 1970 by three brothers, Jens, Bent and Henry Markussen.  The father-in-law of Jens Markussen was a master smith who had manufactured parts for the fishing industry, including slip hooks, since the 1940s. Slip hooks are still part of the product range.

BMM started in Vildbjerg on leased premises covering 165 sq. meters and now has 10,800 sq. m at its disposal following several expansions.  The product range for the fishing industry has been expanded continuously, typically in close cooperation with the customers where BMM works as a trouble-shooter.  BMM has a substantial own production and also distributes a wide variety of commercial products from internationally renowned companies to ensure our customers a wide range of products.

In the mid-1970s, BMM came to a turning point when export markets became increasingly important, and today more than 80% of the company’s production is for export.  Today, the company has a comprehensive network of distributors in all markets with an important fishing industry, and together with other companies in the fishing industry BMM has established its own sales organisations with storage facilities in the US, (Seattle) in Australia and Scotland.

BMM´s trade mark is “The blue Line”, which is why several products are painted blue.

In the early 1990s, BMM set up an industrial division called “BMM Industri” as various products made for the fishing industry could also be used in the industry as such.  BMM Industri supplies products to several significant producers in Danish industry, for example in lifting gear.

At the same time, a company was set up in Göteborg called “Blue Systems AB” in cooperation with interested Swedish parties to develop and sell security systems – cable safety barriers – for the roads.  At first, the company focussed primarily on the Swedish roads but now has customers in various countries in Europe, South Africa and Australia and is setting up business on the US market.
